multi-cultural society

A society characterized by cultural pluralism-as in the cases of the United States and post-war Britain. As an ideal, multi-culturalism celebrates cultural variety (for example linguistic and religious diversity), and may be contrasted with the assimilationist ideal assumed in many early studies of race, ethnicity, and immigration.
